Screening programmes, vaccinations, and other primary care-led public health appointments are nationally failing to meet their desired targets. This failure means there is a significant opportunity left on the table to improve and save lives by catching and treating disease early.
Appt (abbr. appointment) was born from NHS front-line experience in response to this problem. Hector, Appt's founder, worked in a GP surgery and identified a core reason that public health programmes are failing. He saw first-hand the difficulties practices faced to 'call and recall' patients into appointments that help them to live longer and healthier lives.
Our first product replaces the difficult, manual call/recall processes currently used in primary care with one that is automated, effortless, and accessible.
Using innovative digital technology, we want to take away the work of inviting patients into appointments that help them. Whereas, our patient-centred design takes away the barriers to booking for patients, so uptake rates are high. The result? A healthier population, more easily reached practice targets and a stress-free primary care environment.
Our system is built to help patients overcome the common barriers they face when booking a preventative health appointment. By learning directly from our users, we have built targeted digital communication channels that help patients to understand the intervention on offer, whilst making it easy for them to book and attend. Appt is designed to make sure everyone has access to the preventative health appointments they need - using just the phone number they have on record.
We've spent a long time understanding the needs of primary practice staff so that we can build a solution that fits in with their busy schedules. We automated recall tasks that are time-consuming and repetitive and empower practice staff with the tools they need to add human value everywhere else. Appt Health is designed to help practice management to reduce costs, maximise revenue and remain competitive in a changing healthcare environment.
Our platform makes preventative healthcare effortless to administer, more likely to be utilised and a more pleasant experience for everyone involved. This means more diseases caught early, more patients treated before it’s too late, and healthier populations. Appt is designed to drive value across all public health programmes, making them more effective and more likely to deliver social value for everyone.
The opportunity to deliver health and economic value from preventative interventions is huge. Indeed, 84% of deaths in the UK were from a cause considered preventable (ONS, 2017). Solving non-communicable diseases, heart problems, obesity, smoking, and mental health are now considered key to the long term sustainability of the NHS. Yet still, public health activity is underfunded and thus disempowered. Join our community by following us on social media and signing up to our newsletter below.
Appt is a social enterprise and part of that is tackling health inequalities. For this reason, we have designed to make preventative health programmes more inclusive and accessible to everyone. By supporting local care providers to deliver existing prevention programmes in this way, we can empower them to engage more patients from all walks of life.
