Most proactive care invitations end up in the bin

Appt Health was built around a different question: not "how do we reach most patients?" but "what does it take to reach every patient?"

!The reality

Most invitations get ignored.

Worse still, the patients who would benefit most from the care are usually the hardest to reach. Practices serving communities with the greatest health needs face the lowest response rates, and the gap widens with every NHS App notification, SMS and recall letter that goes undelivered or unread. The patients who most need proactive care are consistently the ones that standard outreach fails to reach.

How Appt Health is different

Appt Health’s technology reaches the patients your standard outreach misses.

We start by identifying the eligible patients in your records, contacts them through the channels they actually respond to, and follows up automatically with those that don’t, so your team isn’t spending afternoons on the phone chasing non-responders. It is easy to use and works seamlessly alongside EMIS and SystmOne.

Cancer screening, vaccination programmes, long-term condition management, Appt Health lifts uptake where targets are hardest to achieve. We’ve achieved an 18 percentage point increase in cancer screening uptake, and eliminated income-related uptake inequalities entirely.

01
Invitations sent via multiple channels
Appt Health uses accessible SMS, booking links, NHS App, NHS email, automated voice calls and letters to make sure we reach every patient.
02
Automated voice calls and translated audio
Reaches patients a text message never would, increasing uptake for patients with low digital literacy or non-English first languages.
03
Auto follow-up when patients don’t respond
When a patient doesn’t respond, Appt Health triggers the next step automatically. Your team doesn’t need to constantly check progress.
04
Behavioural messaging that makes a difference
Appt Health uses cutting edge behavioural research that is the difference between a message that gets ignored and one that gets a booking.

How it works

How Appt Health works

A seamless, automated system designed to reduce admin, improve efficiency, and enhance patient care. Here’s how it works:

1
1
Identify all currently eligible patients
Appt Health scans your patient population, identifies who is due for screening, vaccination, or long-term condition management, and builds an outreach list prioritised on patient need level. That means no manual searching, list-pulling or .csv file editing required.
2
2
Invite the right patient at the right time
Patients that are due for multiple things are contacted by NHS App, email, SMS, voice call, or letter - whichever invitation channel they’re most likely to respond to - with an opportunity to book all of their outstanding care needs, based on available appointment capacity.
3
3
If a patient doesn’t respond, we change our approach
We don’t just send the same invitation time and time again and expect a different response. We use historical invitation data to vary the channel, the timing, and the behavioural messaging, meaning the next invite is the one most likely to lead to a booking.

“We gave Appt Health a list we had already given up on, patients who had been invited three or more times. Any success in reaching non-responders is positive, but the figures look amazing.”
